iVIE Categories

Here are the 2013 Categories. Please note some categories are still to be added as sponsors confirm. We will try to have them all posted by the end of October.

Common Core Standards are suggested for each category. iVIE has always encouraged integrated learning. Creating a successful engaging video requires thorough understanding of the topic, as well as critical analysis synthesized into unique expression. Look for suggested CCSS provided with each category. For more resources on the new CCSS go to: http://www.sdcoe.net/commoncore/standards.asp

Common Core Standards Alignment. iVIE has always asked students to achieve the highest form of learning, to create with it. It is natural then that iVIE is in alignment with the new Common Core Standards which focus on integration and presentation literacy. For the middle school categories the most relevant overarching standard is Production and Distribution of Writing. The specifics are: Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience. Develop and strengthen writing as needed by planning, revising, editing, rewriting, or trying a new approach. Use technology, including the Internet, to produce and publish writing and to interact and collaborate with others. Category Changes from Previous Years

Bloom Pyramid In 2001, "create" was added to the very top of Bloom's Taxonomy. This year, iVIE categories will require a demonstration of this level of learning. Beyond remembering and understating facts, videos should demonstrate a synthesis of information into a new form, created by students.

What we are challenging students NOT to do is create a video that simply reviews learned facts. Instead we want students to weave learned facts and concepts into a story of their own. Please read the new categories carefully. There are examples and multiple ideas offered to help inspire your students. Feel free to ask questions via email or call.
